Q_A JULY _ problem

from jamesmarsters.com

Well, sometimes "regular" Q&A's don't happen as planned! However, James has devoted fans from over 100 countries who frequently write in requesting information about his songs and the meaning behind them. So for those fans (from as far away as Malaysia, Bangladesh, Azerbaijan, and Argentina, to name a few) who may never have the chance to attend a concert or hear his song comments in person, here are a few clips about how some of his songs came about.

Long Time is whining about a girlfriend I lived with for three and a half years. I kind of woke up to the fact that it was less of a deep relationship than I thought it was at the time.

Angel
was about a different girlfriend who I never really thought she liked herself as much as she should have. I thought she had reason to like herself a lot, so I wrote a song from my perspective that she really was an angel in the world....but she didn't see it.

Civilized Man was about a second AD (Assistant Director) who was working on a movie called Cool Money that I did in Chicago and he was a real jerk. He'd scream at everybody. I was the lead in it and he'd scream at me and he would just be abusing actors, and just pissing me off. And I dealt with it pretty maturely. I went to the AD and just said he's a problem for me and keep him away from me. I don't need to be screamed at in order to come to set. So I found that I had a lot of animosity when I got home from work at night, dealing with this guy, and so I wrote a song all about how I would like to beat him up. That's called "Civilized Man" and it's all about how hard it is sometimes to be civilized. I found out later that he was on cocaine, he was on drugs, he had a coke problem and that's why he was such a d**k.

No Promises is kind of a prayer out into the universe to find a good woman. It was written during a time when I wasn't dating and I was re-evaluating the kinds of people that I had been dating and trying to have a happier relationship. So it was kind of like, "when I do start dating again, I hope I find you."

This Town was written for the band, Ghost of the Robot when we were together, and the band said it was about primal hope; hope when hope makes no sense, when hope is actually, maybe kind of foolish but you stick to it anyway. And that somehow, that's kind of the best part of humanity - specifically the kind of hope where you're gonna find love. And, just, for me, how often someone's in love with somebody but that someone they love doesn't love them back, and that's person's in love with a third person and that third person's in love with somebody else; and how it sometimes feels rare that two people are actually in love with each other and how much longing and yearning and pain is involved in that. So I kind of wrote a story about that.

Poor Robyn - This was a song I wrote about an ex-girlfriend and we kept trying to get back together at fits and starts and finally I kind of wanted to close that chapter in my life and stop dating Robyn. It was originally called Over Now but then I changed it, trying to be as loving as possible about that.

in official site you can listen some clip where James talks about those songs.

“You guys like watching me getting humiliated…”

sourcedwscifi An other new interview of James from dwscifi. Some quotes
After attending Star Trek conventions in your childhood, what was it like being a convention guest for the first time?

It makes me appreciate that you guys are letting your freak out! I had a lot of the best times of my life with Spock ears [at conventions]. There are a lot of intelligent, interesting, wonderfully weird people in my fan base.

Will fans of the Dragonball and Dragonball Z series like the movie?

There have been some changes, but it’s true to the heart of Dragonball.

How did you feel about not being a Big Bad on Buffy?

I was really, really, really mad about not being a Big Bad. [Marsters found out that as a regular, Spike was supposed to be pathetic.] But you guys like watching me get humiliated. I decided to suffer as beautifully as I could, with dignity.

How did you feel about the end of Buffy as a series?

The end of that show was not about Spike, it was about the Potentials. I would have liked the Potentials not to have been on the show. Lovely women, but I would have liked [Spike] to have chosen to sacrifice himself.

Would you rather do a Buffy/Spike movie or a Spike/Drusilla movie?

I had this idea [for a Spike movie] for Spike in London. We never saw Spike proactively say, ‘I want that’ – he’s a loser, he should want something very small. He tries to date a new woman and tries to keep her from finding out he’s a vampire – I think it would be hilarious. She finds out he’s a vamp, is disgusted [and leaves him]. He tries to fight a monster – it blows up to six times as big as he thought it was. He runs away saying, ‘I need a witch, I need a librarian …’ He does get a new pair of boots at the end. continue ...

Jump Square magazine/James interview

sourcedbthemovie.com
A Japanese magazine "Jump Square" into issue of August, publicized an article about dragonball and an interview of James. A source of dbthemovie.com made a translation. I'll insert just a bit of this interview here, look dbthemovie.com for to see all of that.

What is the difference between the original and the live-action movie ?

JM: Definitely the story of this movie is different from the original. But it’s a necessary change because we need to condense the long story of the original for a movie. For example, some characters in the original don’t appear in the movie. And we try to give it a more gritty and graphic (realistic) feeling.

Though there are differences between the two, I think it is all right if the core part of Dragonball remains. I let my son watch the anime’s Dragonball, DBZ and DBGT since he was eight years old. At first, I thought it was too violent, but I realized this is the best show for training to become a true man. True men need not to flaunt themselves. Their calm, gentle and modest but when it comes to the crunch they don’t hesitate to kill the enemy, and I think that’s what Goku is.

Goku is a real man. I know my son received such a message and applied it to his own life. My son doesn’t use violence to others, but he isn’t afraid of his own anger. I think it’s an important thing.

How many hours does it take to apply the make-up?

JM: It takes about four hours. Luckily, my make-up artist is very chatty, we have a lot of chat during the make up.

Hello everyone. I'm just back in the States. "Moonshot" was an excellent film experience. The director told me he'd work with me again anytime. I think you all will really like it when it comes out. Looking forward to seeing those of you going to Dragon Con - not sure if I'll be able to squeeze in any other cons this year. Everybody take care.

James
